Bill Clinton tries to boost McConnell challenger

Updated Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014 | 9:17 a.m.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Democratic Senate challenger Alison Lundergan Grimes says Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell is out of ideas and part of the problem in Washington.

Campaigning in Kentucky Tuesday with former president Bill Clinton, Grimes says in prepared remarks that McConnell's idea of a jobs plan is spending millions of dollars on attack ads.

She's getting powerful backup from Clinton, a family friend who is making his first campaign trail appearance of the 2014 midterm elections.

Grimes is seeking the seat that McConnell has held for 30 years.

McConnell is linking Grimes with President Barack Obama, who is unpopular in Kentucky. But Clinton carried Kentucky when he won the presidency.
