14 displaced after separate fires in North Las Vegas

Fourteen people were displaced late Friday after two unrelated house fires erupted in North Las Vegas.

The first fire broke out about 8:40 p.m. at the 400 block of Duchess Avenue and caused an estimated $200,000 worth of damage. The home’s seven residents — six adults and one child — escaped without serious injuries. North Las Vegas firefighters put out the fire in less than 20 minutes after it was reported.

While firefighters were responding to the first fire, another broke out about 9:05 p.m. in the 2200 block of Meadow Green Avenue. That home, too, was gutted by the blaze, which caused an estimated $250,000 in damages. It displaced another seven people — five adults and two children. No one was hurt.

The American Red Cross is offering both families temporary housing.
