A man accused of killing two people while driving drunk on Summerlin Parkway was released today from University Medical Center and is now behind bars at the Clark County jail.

Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Loy Hixson said 51-year-old Gustavo Garcia of North Las Vegas was hospitalized in critical condition after the head-on crash a little after 4 p.m. Feb. 5 on Summerlin Parkway. While being treated at the hospital, Garcia was arrested on Feb. 7 on two counts of felony driving under the influence charges.

He was released from UMC today and taken to the Clark County Detention Center, where he remains without bail. He is due for an initial court appearance on Thursday in Las Vegas Justice Court.

Hixson said Garcia’s GMC pickup crossed the landscaped median on Summerlin Parkway and slammed into a car occupied by 20-year-old Savanna Rae Gonzales and her 31-year-old passenger, Frank Anthony Spenia III.
