An inmate at the Northern Nevada Correctional Center succumbed to a chronic medical condition on Sunday, state prison officials said.

James Reed, 53, reportedly died at the prison’s Regional Medical Facility. According to the Nevada Department of Corrections, he had been in prison since September 1993 serving up to life in prison for sexually assaulting a person under 16.

He is the second inmate to die at the facility of a chronic medical condition this month. On Wednesday, Jeffrey McKenna was found dead at the Regional Medical Facility and was subsequently rushed to Carson Tahoe Hospital, where he died.

Officials did not specify what medical condition Reed suffered from; an autopsy was requested.
