Fire does $100,000 damage at house in North Las Vegas

A North Las Vegas man tried to put out a fire at his house with a garden hose Tuesday, but the blaze did about $100,000 damage before firefighters arrived and extinguished it, officials said.

The North Las Vegas Fire Department responded about 11:50 p.m. to the fire at 2115 Larey Ave., near Clayton Street and Carey Avenue.

Firefighters arrived to find heavy flames and smoke coming from the house, Fire Department Capt. Cedric Williams said.

The homeowner was visiting his brother’s home when a neighbor told him the house was on fire, Williams said. The homeowner attempted to extinguish the blaze with a hose, but it had no impact on the flames, he said.

It took about 30 firefighters from North Las Vegas and Las Vegas to extinguish the fire.
