Updated Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014 | 8:37 a.m.

CENTRALIA, Wash. (AP) — His family says a former Winlock man was one of two civilian contractors killed Monday by a suicide car bomb in Kabul, Afghanistan.

Michael Hughes grew up in Winlock and had been living in Las Vegas prior to working overseas, his sister Kristine Wallace told The Chronicle of Centralia (http://bit.ly/1bIYiqh ).

She says Hughes had worked as a corrections officer at McNeil Island and was training Afghans to run their own prisons.

An Islamic militant group claimed responsibility for the blast that also injured seven Afghans near a prison.

Names of the victims have not been officially released but the DynCorp International corporation said they were employees working on security transition.

Wallace says her brother will likely be buried in Lewis County.
