Brotherly bond united deputies in Dorner manhunt

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (AP) — For three brothers, the massive manhunt for fugitive ex-cop Christopher Dorner last year hit close to home.

The Collins brothers are all San Bernardino County Sheriff's deputies, and from the moment the disgraced former Los Angeles police officer turned up in Big Bear Lake, they were in the thick of it.

Sgt. Ryan Collins found Dorner's truck after investigating a possible car fire, his discovery teeing off the mountain hunt. Det. Matt Collins joined other SWAT members combing the forest amid a snowstorm. Days later, Ryan responded to an elderly couple tied up by Dorner as Det. Alex Collins chased after Dorner.

Alex was shot four times in Dorner's final standoff with authorities.

Dorner killed four people, including two law enforcement officers, in a 10-day rampage to avenge his firing.
