Letter to the editor:

Sony hype is manufactured

On July 8, 1953, a movie opened in theaters all over the U.S. and instantly generated picketers, angry letters to newspaper editors and loads of interest in a film presentation that was about as “harmful” (by today’s standards) as Walt Disney’s “Bambi.”

The title of this “vulgar and disgusting trash” was, “The Moon is Blue,” and public attendance at its numerous showings set box office records in some areas of the country, thanks to the genius of director Otto Preminger, who advised the film distributors to “create controversy, if you want this to be a success.” The studio followed his advice, and the rest is cinematic history.

I see that Sony is doing the same thing by falsely claiming that their emails were “hacked” (probably done by their own employees, after fictional emails were first created) and saying that “threats have been received,” thus ensuring that when their movie finally does premiere, one will have to wait in line for several hours to purchase tickets.

Abraham Lincoln said it best when he noted that “you can fool all of the people some of the time.”

Don’t fall for the Sony-manufactured hype.
