Letter to the editor:

EMT services sure have changed

In reference to the Sun article “Tales of tragedy, triumph from Nevada paramedics” (Dec. 13):

I was living in Southern New Hampshire in the early 1970s when Bob Murray, in association with the private Meadowood Fire Department and fire training school, published one of the first (if not the first) EMT training books and established an EMT training school for the New England area. This was the beginning of the switch from bare-bones ambulance service to a trained paramedic ambulance service.

As I recall, the funeral homes were more than happy to give up the responsibilities related to running the local ambulance services. Many people today have no concept of the changes that have taken place in the EMT rescue services.
