A teenager jumped off a pedestrian walkway along Interstate 15 during the morning rush hour today after resisting an attempt by officers to save her, causing brief traffic delays along the busy highway, police said.

Highway Patrol Trooper Loy Hixson said emergency responders received a call about the girl about 6:20 a.m. She had been on a walkway along the interstate just south of Cheyenne Avenue.

Troopers shut down the highway's northbound and southbound lanes, then reached through a fence and grabbed the girl, 16, by her clothing to secure her after she attempted to jump. But she resisted and unzipped her hoodie, falling to the ground, North Las Vegas Police Sgt. Chrissie Coon said.

Medical personnel were on scene when the girl jumped, police said. The incident occurred about 7 a.m.

The teen was rushed to University Medical Center's Trauma Center with injuries not considered life-threatening, including broken bones. She remains in stable condition.

Traffic was back to normal in the area by 8:30 a.m.
