letter to the editor:

Display of empathy in Las Vegas

Las Vegas philanthropy is alive and flourishing. We saw it firsthand Dec. 11 at the Palazzo.

Five hundred people filled the ballroom and raised hundreds if not thousands of dollars to help support Friends of the Israeli Defense Force — known as the FIDF — brought together by the indefatigable Dana Werner. Dudu Fisher set the mood, singing “Bring Him Home.”

Longtime FIDF supporters Sheldon and Miriam Adelson were in the front row, and national FIDF chairwoman Nily Falic was right behind them, with your outstanding sheriff and his lead team of officers on site, to honor the FIDF soldiers and officers.

From a distance, we saw Las Vegas as a city that parties every day — but it was clear to us that your Las Vegas community is so much more: It is a loving and philanthropic business community, easily moved to open hearts — and wallets — to do good for others.

It was an honor to be at this annual FIDF event and see the beautiful outpouring of empathy that is clearly at the core of your amazing Las Vegas community. It was a great event. Bravo to everyone.
