When will local government offices be open during holidays? Here’s a roundup

Local governments around the valley are closing their doors and reducing their hours next week and the week after for the holidays.

All local city and county governments will be closed on Christmas Day and New Year's Day, with some extending the closures as a cost-saving measure at a time when demand for services is lower.

Core government functions like police and fire protection will continue to operate unchanged, but it could be more difficult to get help with your utility bill or file a code enforcement complaint.

Here's a rundown of how schedules for local governments will be affected in the coming weeks:

Henderson

Henderson's non-emergency city government operations will be shut down on Dec. 24, Dec. 25 and Jan. 1. City hall will also be closed to the public this coming Monday and Tuesday, but some employees will still be working and answering phone calls from residents. The utility services department, building and fire safety department and the municipal court will continue to operate.

Several recreation centers also will be closed over the holidays for maintenance, including Black Mountain Recreation Center and Whitney Ranch Recreation Center from Dec. 22 to Dec. 28 and Valley View Recreation Center and Henderson Multigenerational Center from Dec. 29 to Jan. 4.

All recreation centers will be closed on Dec. 24, Dec. 25 and Jan. 1, with reduced hours of 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Dec. 31.

The city's online bill pay systems will remain active, and residents can use the city's Contact Henderson website to report problems needing attention during the closure.

North Las Vegas

North Las Vegas City Hall will remain open except for Dec. 25 and Jan. 1. The city's libraries will close early at 6 p.m. on Dec. 24 and Dec. 31.

The Neighborhood Recreation Center and Silver Mesa Recreation Center will close for two weeks starting Saturday for maintenance, reopening on Jan. 5. The Fun Zone Program and Safekey Winter Camp will continue to operate at Silver Mesa Recreation Center with normal hours.

Las Vegas

Las Vegas City Hall will be closed on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1 only, maintaining normal operations the rest of the holiday weeks.

Clark County

The Clark County Government Center will be closed on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1, with only critical functions like the fire department, child protective services and the coroner's offices continuing to operate around-the-clock. Many county employees from the public works and building departments will be working on Jan. 1 to clean up the aftermath of the massive New Year's Eve celebration on the Strip.

Other government agencies

The Regional Transportation Commission will be shifting its buses to weekend schedules on Dec. 24 and Dec. 25. Buses will run on a Saturday schedule on Dec. 24 and a Sunday schedule on Dec. 25 due to lower ridership traffic.

The agency will offer free rides for locals and tourists from 6 p.m. Dec. 31 to 9 a.m. Jan. 1 for the New Year's Eve celebration.

The Regional Justice Center will be closed on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1 but the courthouse will otherwise function normally. The same goes for the Las Vegas Valley Water District, which is closed on the holidays but open the remainder of the weeks.
