What modern-day invention can you not live without?

FaceTime, so that I can stay in touch with my grandkids.

If you could meet anyone — living or dead — who would it be and what’s the first question you would ask them?

My great-great-great-great-grandfather: Why did you not homestead 10,000 acres?

Name your favorite television series and why?

"Pawn Stars." Old Man and Rick Harrison are pretty fun to watch.

What moral values are essential for a successful career?

My dad always told me, put your family first.

How do you define happiness?

Spending time with my two grandkids, Brielle and Zachary.

How do you defuse stress or tension?

Going 100 miles per hour around the race track defuses my stress.

What is your favorite pickup line?

I’ve been happily married for 30 years, ask my wife.

Any guilty pleasure(s)?

The Road Kill Grill in Las Vegas.

What is your most embarrassing public moment?

Cellphone ringing while (former president) George W. Bush is speaking at my campaign rally. I got a stern look.

What words best describe the city you live in?

Smith Valley: Quiet, fresh, clean air, green, friendly, good neighbors, family oriented.

What is the most difficult task you’ve accomplished this year?

Passing the Lands Package in the NDAA through the House and the Senate.

What is the most important topic for the Nevada Legislature to address during the 2015 session?

How many different speakers will there be by the end of session?

Any regrets this past year?

Not getting the unemployment extension signed by the president.

What is your top priority moving into 2015?

Economy, jobs, and health care.
