Nevada regulator testifies in Las Vegas gambling ruse

Updated Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2014 | 6:35 p.m.

A Nevada casino regulator told a federal judge that investigators spent hours briefing a federal prosecutor before employing a ruse to gain entry to high-roller suites at Caesars Palace and break up what prosecutors say was an illegal Internet sports gambling operation.

But like other witnesses before him, Nevada Gaming Control Board Agent Ricardo Lopez testified they didn't have a warrant when they disabled Internet service so he and others could pose as repairmen.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Peggy Leen has already heard FBI Agent Minh Pham acknowledge failing to inform the judge who issued a search warrant in July that such a ruse had been used.

Defense attorneys want the case against for a Malaysian businessman and his son thrown out as the product of an illegal search.
