Shooting on Las Vegas Strip

The gunman killed early this morning in a shootout with a bus security officer on the Las Vegas Strip has been identified by the Clark County Coroner's Office.

Christopher Gene Boudinot, 35, was shot and killed by a Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada security guard after he was asked to get off the public bus, Metro Police said.

Police received reports about 1:45 a.m. of two people shot in the 3600 block of Las Vegas Boulevard South, near West Flamingo Road, Metro Police said in a statement. The area is in the vicinity of the Bellagio.

Officers found two people with gunshot wounds on the sidewalk, police said.

A security officer contracted by the Regional Transportation Commission asked a passenger to get off the bus because of a disturbance, police said.

The man pulled a handgun and shot the security officer multiple times, police said. The officer shot back, and the man was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The security officer was taken to University Medical Center. He was in stable condition with injuries not considered life-threatening, Lt. Dennis O'Brien said.

“We are saddened to hear about the incident that occurred at the bus stop near South Las Vegas Boulevard and Flamingo Road. Our prayers and deepest condolences are with the families of those involved,” RTC General Manager Tina Quigley said in a statement.

The RTC declined further comment.

The cause of the initial disturbance was unclear. Northbound lanes of the Strip in the area were closed while police investigated but have since been reopened.

The name of the man killed will be released by the Clark County Coroner’s Office.

Police are asking anyone with additional information about the incident to contact Metro’s homicide section at 702-828-3521 or by email at [email protected]. To remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555 or online at crimestoppersofnv.com.
