Remnants of a punishing storm that wreaked havoc along the West Coast brought showers to the valley today, and the cloudy weather is expected to continue through at least part of the day Saturday, the National Weather Service said.

Highs are expected to reach the mid-50s over the weekend, with lows from the upper 30s to about 40 degrees, National Weather Service meteorologist Andrew Gorelow said.

Despite initial forecasts of a sunny Saturday for valley residents, it now appears that it will be partly to mostly cloudy all day, meteorologist John Salmen said.

Winds as high as 10 miles per hour are anticipated to blow in from the northwest by Saturday afternoon, and there is a chance for lingering showers Saturday morning, the weather service said.

The next chance for rain in the valley should be Tuesday, with a 30 percent chance of precipitation during the day and a 40 percent chance in the evening, Gorelow said.

Meanwhile, showers across the valley Friday contributed to accidents and flight delays.

About a quarter of an inch fell in Henderson, a third of an inch fell in Boulder City and less than 0.15 inches fell in other parts of the valley, Salmen said.

Low clouds delayed traffic in and out of McCarran International Airport, according to the airport's Twitter page.

Between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., Nevada Highway Patrol responded to 30 vehicle collisions, Trooper Loy Hixson said. On an average day, Hixson said, NHP typically responds to about seven accidents within the same period.

Near the Las Vegas Ski and Snowboard Resort in the Mount Charleston area, about 8 to 10 inches of snow fell Friday, Salmen said. A winter weather advisory is in effect there until 4 a.m. Saturday.

Pockets of dense fog began to gather Friday night in the Summerlin area as well. The northern part of the valley may see fog Saturday, Salmen said.

Las Vegas Fire & Rescue is warning drivers to slow down on wet streets and suggesting that residents unplug outside electric decorations.

Hixson suggested drivers leave more space between vehicles and be careful not to speed, especially on curved roads.
