Two women were hospitalized and a dog died after a fire broke out in a southwest valley residence this afternoon, causing about $150,000 in damage, fire officials said.

Officials received a report about 5:30 p.m. of a fire in the two-story house located in the 7800 block of Warwickshire Way, near Jones Boulevard and Robindale Road, Clark County Fire Department spokesman Jeff Buchanan said.

One woman was able to escape the home on her own and was transported to University Medical Center for smoke inhalation and minor burns, Buchanan said.

A second woman, who was found limp and unable to move, was carried by fire crews down a ladder before being transported to UMC, Buchanan said.

The condition of the second woman, who was unresponsive, has improved, he said.

One dog died in the fire and another was resuscitated.

Initial reports of a person dying as a result of the fire were incorrect, Metro Police Lt. Mark Reddon said.

The flames originated in a first-floor bedroom and spread through a window and up to the roof, reaching about 20 feet, Buchanan said.

About 30 firefighters responded to the scene, he said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
