High School Football:

Three-year Las Vegas High standout commits to Air Force

Sun Standout: Jacob Littlefield

A short video profile on Las Vegas High School's Jacob Littlefield.

Linebacker Jacob Littlefield had 302 tackles over the past three seasons for the Las Vegas High football team and was arguably the best defender in Southern Nevada.

Yet, he didn’t have any college scholarship offers because of his 6 foot, 195-pound frame. That changed this week when Air Force offered a scholarship.

Monday, Littlefield verbally committed.

“I know God has a plan for me,” Littlefield said. “He will open up doors. I just have to go through them. I knew if it was meant for me to play college football, I would.”

During the playoffs this year when the Las Vegas starting running back was injured, Littlefield showed his versatility. He rushed for 181 yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries to help the Wildcats reach the Sunrise semifinals. He broke his collarbone in the third quarter, but still played both ways the remainder of the game

“He’s a good football player with great instincts,” Las Vegas High coach James Thurman said. “He is the hardest worker you will ever find. He has all those intangibles everyone talks about. ... Just a special kid.”

Of Littlefield’s 124 tackles during his junior season in 2013, 18 went for a loss.

Littlefield plans to serve a two-year church mission. Last year, Las Vegas High wide receiver Aaron Zanin-Banks signed with Air Force.

Verbal commitments are nonbinding until signing day in early February.
