Gift baskets will be up for bid through a silent auction.

A Henderson group is hoping to ring in the holiday season and raise a little money for local libraries while they're at it.

The Friends of Henderson Libraries will host a decorated tree and wreath showcase Friday at the Paseo Verde Library with proceeds going to Henderson libraries to buy books and fund youth programs.

It's the 11th time the group has organized their Library Tree Lane Gala, which includes live entertainment, food, wine and a silent auction of nearly 200 decorated gift baskets. Catering is provided by Emery's with beverages from Southern Nevada Wine and Spirits. Last year's event raised $36,000.

“I am thrilled to attend this year’s Library Tree Lane event and experience first-hand the generosity and support of the Henderson community,” said Angela Thornton, executive director of the Henderson Libraries. “The budgetary gaps have left us with needs only the community can fill, and Library Tree Lane is a festive and fun way to bring the businesses and individuals together for a good cause.”

The event typically highlights an author, and this year's event will feature Deborah Coonts, author of the "Lucky O'Toole" series set in Las Vegas. At the end of the night, the decorated trees are brought to the charity of the tree sponsor's choice.

Tickets are $35. Business or cocktail attire is recommended. To buy a ticket, call 702-492-6584.
