letter to the editor:

U.S. might regret doing nothing

We removed dictatorial governments in Afghanistan and Iraq after 9/11 and tried nation building, which has turned out to be a spectacular failure. Americans are tired of foreign involvement and twice elected a president who is sympathetic to that view.

The power vacuum we helped create in the Middle East is now being filled by radical Islamic terrorists and their armies. Those terrorists have said they will come after Europe, America and Israel now that they are establishing a caliphate in Iraq..

Our current stance is to do very little that matters in the Middle East. I’m not sure what the policy and plan should be, but I am increasingly concerned that if we just stand by and do nothing, we may regret it, as we did on Sept. 11, 2001.
