letter to the editor:

Don’t horse around with carriage idea

How quaint! A horse-drawn carriage ride on Las Vegas streets? How incredibly stupid for so many valid reasons.

To the City Council members who opposed the approval for this business, my thanks.

Regulations say the horses won’t be used when temperatures go over 90 degrees. That’s not acceptable. The council feels comfortable (in air conditioned digs) with a very high temperature level for horses pulling a rig weighing hundreds of pounds on pavement that escalates the 90 degree temperatures even higher.

How do you feel when it’s 90 degrees outside? And you’re not lugging very heavy equipment on pavement that burns bare feet wearing a nonremovable heavy coat as that sun beats down all day long!

Our City Council has approved yet another method to abuse animals in a city that already has its fair share of animals in awful entertainment situations. In Las Vegas, our children far too often see how adults treat animals as money-makers for greedy people!

It’s time for the council to evolve, to take the high road and say no to this particular business operating here.
