Nevada retailers expect $235 million Easter sales

The Retail Association of Nevada says it expects the Easter holiday will equate to higher spending in stores.

The association on Friday predicted Easter-related sales this year will reach $235 million. That would be an increase of 4.5 percent and mark the highest level in six years.

It's not just chocolate bunnies, marshmallow Peeps and jelly beans that will push sales.

Spending on Easter meals is estimated at $43.18 per person. The association estimates spending on clothing at $22.71 per person.

But while candy may not be the largest revenue source for retailers, it's still a holiday must.

The association says nearly 90 percent of shoppers plan to make some sort of Easter-related candy purchase.
