SUV driver faces DUI count in fatal crash involving motorcycle

Updated Tuesday, April 15, 2014 | 4:13 p.m.

A motorcyclist was killed Monday after he lost control and crashed when a man accused of driving under the influence failed to yield on a left turn, according to Metro Police.

The Clark County Coroner’s Office identified the motorcyclist as Ian Arche, 40, of Las Vegas.

Police responded about 6 p.m. to the crash at Pecos Road and Hacienda Avenue, Metro Lt. David Valenta said.

Francisco Contreras-DeJesus, 41, of Las Vegas was driving a Ford Explorer north on Pecos Road when he attempted to make a left turn onto Hacidena, police said. He told police he did not see the motorcyclist approaching south on Pecos Road, according to a Metro Police arrest report.

Contreras-DeJesus failed to yield, causing Arche to lose control and fall off his bike, police said. He slid into the SUV, police said.

Arche was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, where he died.

When police arrived, Contreras-DeJesus smelled of alcohol, his words were slurred and his eyes were bloodshot, the Metro report said. He failed a field sobriety test and a preliminary breath test, police said.

He was booked at the Clark County Detention Center on one count of felony driving under the influence resulting in death, police said.
