The 16-year-old accused of killing his mom and brother was found at a Las Vegas Strip food court, Henderson Police announced this afternoon.
Henderson detectives located Adrian Navarro-Canales about 10:30 a.m. today sitting by himself in an open-air food court near Las Vegas Boulevard and Tropicana Avenue, police said. He was taken into custody without incident.
Police had received a tipTuesday night indicating that Navarro-Canales was near the food court.
Navarro-Canales has been charged with two counts of murder in the deaths of his mother, Elvira Canales-Gomez, and his 9-year-old brother, Cesar Navarro.
Police found their bodies Friday afternoon while conducting a welfare check on the family, who lived in the Summit at Sundridge apartments, 11000 S. Eastern Ave. By Sunday, detectives had identified Navarro-Canales as the suspect in the double-slaying.
Canales-Gomez, 40, and her young son had been stabbed to death with a butcher’s knife, according to an arrest report.
Detectives believe Navarro-Canales left the apartment Sept. 18 and walked to the Strip, police said. Authorities have found no evidence indicating he returned to the apartment during the elapsed week.
Navarro-Canales has been charged as an adult, but he was booked into the juvenile holding area of the Clark County Detention Center, police said.
