Stretch of Las Vegas Boulevard to close for road work

Motorists in downtown Las Vegas should keep an eye out for street closures and detours this weekend as road work continues at several intersections on Las Vegas Boulevard.

The city announced today that Las Vegas Boulevard will close from Garces Avenue to Clark Avenue from at 8 p.m. Friday through 6 a.m. Monday, Sept. 30.

The closure will allow construction crews to remove and replace asphalt along the street at three intersections — Garces Avenue, Bonneville Avenue and Clark Avenue.

The paving is part of the city’s effort to improve access for bicyclists and pedestrians on downtown roadways. It is also part of a separate project to extend the one-way portions of Bonneville and Clark Avenues east from Las Vegas Boulevard to Maryland Parkway.

The work is expected to be finished in October.

Southbound traffic affected by this weekend’s closure will be diverted at Bridger Avenue to Main Street or Maryland Parkway. Northbound traffic will be detoured to Fourth Street at Charleston Boulevard. Gass Avenue will remain open through the construction.
