The Fluke Bowl; Battle for Chicken Fingers

Las Vegas Sun sports reporters spend extra time this week discussing impending matchups between Green Valley and Coronado and Centennial and Arbor View. They also look back on the Henderson Bowl and Bishop Gorman's thrilling victory. ***Note: We apologize for the audio-level issues and are looking into correcting the malfunction for next week. The Desert Pines High football team won for the third straight week to open the season, receiving 130 yards and three touchdowns from Iquan Corsey in a 45-14 win against host Valley.

Two of Corsey’s touchdowns went to Tim Hough, who finished with 70 receiving yards. Malik Davis supplied a 93-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, helping Desert Pines lead 33-7 at halftime.

With the likes of Corsey, Hough, Davis and Eric Wilkes, they sport some of the best skilled-position players in the state. The problem is making sure they each get the ball.

“They understand everyone has to eat,” Desert Pines coach Tico Rodriguez said. “That is our motto. Sometimes, you won’t eat that day, you have to serve the food for the others. They are good team players; they get so excited when the others score.”

Wilkes had 93 yards on 10 carries and Jon McCoy had a pair of receiving touchdowns.

“Valley is a good team with a few Division I athletes. We were concerned with their team speed,” Rodriguez said.

But, just like the past two weeks, Desert Pines had the fastest players on the field.
