New deputy administrator to oversee mental health programs

A new position of deputy administrator has been named in the state Division of Public and Behavioral Health to oversee Nevada’s troubled mental health system.

Administrator Richard Whitley said Monday he has selected Ellen Richardson-Adams to have “direct oversight of Southern Nevada Adult Mental Services, Northern Nevada Adult Mental Health Services, Lake’s Crossing and rural services.”

This is a new position in the division and its title is deputy administrator of clinical services.

Richardson-Adams worked 10 years for Nevada Early Intervention Services and prior to that she was employed by the Clark County School District and Nellis Air Force Base.

The Rawson-Neal Psychiatric Hospital in Las Vegas is in danger of losing its federal support for Medicare patients because of deficiencies in the program. And other mental health facilities have been cited for shortcomings.
