Verbal dispute ends with one dead, one in custody

One man is dead and another is in custody after a shooting that stemmed from a verbal dispute Thursday evening, according to Metro Police.

At 11:30 p.m. Thursday, Metro Police received a 911 call in which both a man and a woman requested emergency assistance. The call disconnected and emergency dispatchers attempted to call the person back but got no answer.

As a result of the call, Metro Police officers were dispatched to a residence in the 1400 block of Amitola Avenue, near the 215 Beltway and Wigwam Avenue, where they found a man, a woman and two children all unharmed. After searching the residence, they found an adult male with gunshot wounds on the floor of the master bedroom.

The victim, who has to be identified by the Clark County Coroner, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Metro Police arrested Troy Martinez, 32, who is charged with murder with a deadly weapon and child endangerment.

The victim was visiting Martinez at his home when an altercation started, according to Metro Police. Investigators believe Martinez retrieved a gun he had in the house and shot the victim during the dispute.

Martinez is being held without bail at the Clark County Detention Center.
