Pedestrian was not using crosswalk in fatal crash, police say

A pedestrian who was hit by a vehicle and killed this evening in the western Las Vegas Valley was not using a crosswalk, Metro Police said.

Metro Police Lt. Barb Schmidt said the man, 60, was walking outside a designated crosswalk near Charleston Boulevard and Durango Drive when a Ford Explorer crashed into him. The Explorer’s driver was not at fault, Schmidt said.

The pedestrian was rushed to University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The intersection has been closed while police further investigate the incident.
