Inmate’s death is third this month at Northern Nevada prison

A prison inmate who had been serving a burglary sentence from Clark County died this week at the Northern Nevada Regional Correctional Center.

The inmate, who has not yet been identified pending notification of relatives, died in a medical facility at the jail on Monday, according to the Nevada Department of Corrections. Foul play is not suspected, and officials said the man had been ill before his death. He had been jailed since April 2009, serving a sentence of 8 to 20 years, officials said.

This was the third death of an inmate from the prison this month.

On Oct. 5, officials found the body of inmate Richard Ferst inside his jail cell. Ferst had been jailed since July 2011 and was serving a maximum sentence of 20 years for burglary, grand larceny and possession of stolen property, according to the Department of Corrections. His case also originated in Clark County. Officials said the cause of Ferst’s death has not yet been determined, though foul play is not suspected.

A day earlier, convicted cop killer Larry Peck was found unresponsive in his cell. He was taken to Carson Tahoe Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead minutes later.

No foul play was suspected in his death, either.

Peck, 62, was serving a life sentence for the 2001 shooting death of Reno Officer John Bohach, according to the Reno Gazette-Journal.
