Work on the first of 14 murals to adorn the walls of various downtown buildings has begun.

Zio began his work on the wall of the old Town Lodge Motel, which will house the art component of the festival called Art Odyssey; D*Face is doing a mural on the wall of Cabana Suites; Doze is doing a mural on a wall of the El Cortez parking garage; and Interesni Kazki started his work on a wall of the Emergency Arts building.

Each artist has his own style and manner of creation. Zio said he came up with some of the concept for his mural while flying into Las Vegas. Hear him go into more detail, and have a moment of discovery, as he talks about his mural in the audio file attached to this story.

Life Is Beautiful is next weekend, Oct. 26-27, and will feature dozens of bands, a culinary village, an art odyssey and a learning component.

Joe Schoenmann doesn’t just cover downtown; he lives and works there. Schoenmann is Greenspun Media Group’s embedded downtown journalist, working from an office in the Emergency Arts building.
