The newest casino to open in Las Vegas can’t be described as lavish. There will be no dancing fountains, fancy restaurants or clubs.

Instead, you’ll get a 40-foot trailer with 16 slot machines sitting on a dusty, vacant lot. And if you have to go to the bathroom, well, there’s a portable toilet outside.

This casino, if it can be called that, will open for eight hours on Dec. 10 before it closes and is hauled away.

Station Casinos is running it as a requirement to maintain the state gaming license for the defunct Castaways on East Fremont Street.

Station plans to operate the temporary casino from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the site of the old casino, which closed in 2004.

The three-member state Gaming Control Board today approved the temporary operation, which still must obtain local permits.

Rob Woodson of Station told the board he didn’t expect much action at the trailer-casino. Some people might show up out of curiosity and put some money into the slot machines.

It is up to the Nevada Gaming Commission to decide whether to extend the Castaways gaming license for another two years.
