A 16-year-old who is one of two teens accused of killing an elderly woman last month has been certified to stand trial as an adult.
The teen — identified by authorities today as Fabian Diaz — has been booked into the Clark County Detention Center on counts of murder with a deadly weapon, conspiracy to commit murder, attempted robbery with a deadly weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery.
Police allege Diaz and his accomplice, 19-year-old William Copeland, shot a woman while they were trying to rob her Sept. 28. The incident happened in the 200 block of Jefferson Avenue, near H Street and Monroe Avenue.
The woman, 71-year-old Dixie Chaney Jones, died at University Medical Center.
Copeland also remains in jail and has been charged with first-degree murder with a deadly weapon, conspiracy to commit murder, attempted robbery with a deadly weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery.
