Letter to the editor:

Republicans wrong about health care

In all the debate about the Affordable Care Act, I find it interesting that I have read nothing about the national health care systems in other democracies. All the major democracies have them, including Germany, France and Britain. Everyone who wants to can join.

These democracies do it for half, or less than half, the per capita cost in the United States. Their citizens’ life expectancies are at least as high as in the U.S., which I think is a good measure of the efficiency of a national health service.

The World Health Organization rated France’s system the best in the world.

So, why are these Republicans trying to abort Obamacare by holding the national budget hostage? Do they not believe, like other democracies, that everyone has the right to health care? I am a conservative who should vote Republican, but certainly will not while Republicans behave like this.
