A law and public policy website has ranked Henderson as the sixth safest city in the United States with a population over 200,000.

Top 10 Safest Cities

1. Irvine, Calif.

2. Gilbert, Ariz.

3. Plano, Texas

4. Fremont, Calif.

5. Scottsdale, Ariz.

6. Henderson, Nev.

7. Virginia Beach, Va.

8. Irving, Texas

9. Garland, Texas

10. Chula Vista, Calif.

Law Street’s rankings were based on 2012 FBI violent crime data collected from police departments across the country.

Henderson was cited for its low murder rate, high standard of living, recreational facilities and financial stability that combine to “foster safety and security within the city.”

Henderson was previously named the second safest city in America by Forbes in 2011. It also was recognized as one of America’s best places to live by Money magazine in 2012, 2008 and 2006, Henderson Police spokesman Keith Paul said.

“I am proud that Henderson has again been recognized as a safe city,” Police Chief Patrick Moers said in a statement. “This recognition is possible because of the dedicated employees of the police department, support from our citizens and commitment from our city leaders.”

Law Street was launched this year by journalist and publisher John Jenkins and a group of students and young lawyers from New York and Washington. D.C. A team of 25 people produce stories about law and public policy issues.
