The trial of a man charged with murder in a shooting and deadly car crash on the Las Vegas Strip has been delayed until September, and his new attorneys said they may need even more time to prepare.

District Court Judge Kathleen Delaney today set a new trial date of Sept. 8 for Ammar Harris, who had been set to stand trial Dec. 2.

Harris, 27, recently was appointed defense attorneys Robert Langford and Thomas Ericsson after he had conflicts with court-appointed special public defender David Schieck.

Langford and Ericsson said they may not be ready by September, because of their existing case load and the time required to prepare for a murder trial.

Harris faces three charges of first-degree murder and one charge of attempted murder in the Feb. 21 shooting and crash.

According to Metro Police reports and court records, Harris got into an argument in the valet area of the Aria with another man, Kenneth Cherry Jr.

After the two drove off in separate vehicles, Harris is accused of shooting at Cherry’s car as the two drove north on Las Vegas Boulevard.

Cherry subsequently lost control of the car and slammed into a cab, causing it to explode, authorities said.

Cherry died, as did cab driver Michael Boldon, 62, and Sandra Sutton-Wasmund, 48, a businesswoman from Maple Valley, Wash., who was a passenger in the cab.

Freddy Walters, a passenger in Cherry’s car, was shot but survived.

In September, Harris was found guilty of four felonies in a 2010 assault and robbery case. He was scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 4 in that case.
