Poker player Frank Kassela drops bid for Congress

World Series of Poker player Frank Kassela has folded in his bid to become Las Vegas’s representative in Congress.

Kassela announced less than a month ago that he would run as a Democrat in Nevada’s 3rd Congressional District.

“I am dropping out of the NV-03 race because I can’t commit the time away from my family and companies,” he tweeted this morning.

Although Kassela lives in Las Vegas, he owns several businesses throughout the United States. When he announced Oct. 28 that he would seek the office, he was a political newcomer, although he had a lengthy history of donating to Republican and Democratic candidates.

He also tweeted that he supports Erin Bilbray, the Democrat running in Nevada’s 3rd Congressional District against Rep. Joe Heck, R-Nev., the incumbent running for reelection.

The district stretches from the Arizona border through Boulder City to Henderson and parts of Las Vegas.
