Beginning Wednesday, Las Vegas will play host to Nevada’s inaugural Trans Pride Week, a five-day series of events and activities designed to celebrate and bring awareness to the local transgender community.

The celebration, which continues through Sunday, arrives as a collaboration among the Center, Gender Justice Nevada, Mary Magdalene Friends UCC, Northwest Community Church and Get Equal Nevada. All members of the LGBTQ and allied communities are invited to join in the occasion.

The week kicks off Wednesday with a Trans Pride March beginning at 7 p.m. at the Center and ending at City Hall. Participants are invited to create and bring signs and banners to accompany the march downtown.

Other events include a Transgender Day of Remembrance Vigil on Friday at 7 p.m., a Trans Worship Service on Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Center and a Trans Pride Week Mixer at Club Metro on Sunday at 6 p.m.

Trans Pride Week also will feature keynote speaker Miss Major Griffin-Gracy, executive director of TGI Justice (Transgender, Gender Variant and Intersex Justice) and a community activist for more than 40 years. Griffin-Gracy will speak at the Center on Friday evening and Saturday afternoon.
