A new, multimillion-dollar cultural arts center is planned for the burgeoning downtown arts district.

At the centerpiece of the center is The Modern Contemporary Art Museum that will showcase art, technology and design and provide training and tools for artists and designers.

The cultural arts center would be financed through a $29 million capital campaign now under way. Organizers say they’ve already landed $2.4 million in land and cash donations.

The three components of the center:

• The Modern Contemporary Art Museum, which will house 35,000 square feet of museum galleries featuring a series of rotating exhibits.

• The Center for Creativity, which will feature 15,000 square feet of learning space and offer interactive educational programs for all ages.

• Luminous Park, an outdoor sculpture garden and community gathering space.

A private board of directors guided by Julie Murray, who has been involved in dozens of philanthropic efforts in Las Vegas, is directing the project. Murray, who was founding president and CEO of Three Square, now leads the Moonridge Group, which advises groups and corporations in their charitable and philanthropic endeavors.
