Downtown Project partners purchased the 65-unit John E. Carson Hotel building at Sixth and Carson in April 2012 for about $2.1 million.

Work last week began on the interior demolition of the John E. Carson Hotel, 124 S. Sixth St., purchased a year ago and now part of the realm of the Downtown Project.

Sources said the building might be home to several different types of business, including a doughnut shop, smoothie bar, tavern and offices.

Some 43 tenants of the 65-unit building were given the option to move into another downtown Las Vegas hotel, The Dragon, a few blocks east and north of Fremont Street, with their first month free and lower monthly rates than they paid in the John E. Carson.

Downtown Project investors purchased the John E. Carson in April 2012 for $2.1 million. They also purchased the Eden Inn next door, though plans for that building were not immediately available.

Joe Schoenmann doesn’t just cover downtown, he lives and works there. Schoenmann is Greenspun Media Group’s embedded downtown journalist, working from an office in the Emergency Arts building.
