In response to many who say, “Clean up the Strip,” come on. Las Vegas is and always will be an adult entertainment town. No one is forcing you to take the “smut” books and fliers. How many times do we see mom and dad taking their kids in casinos, and making the kids stand aside while the parents play? If you want clean, family fun, take them to Disneyland. Leave Vegas as it is, and should be. We like having no kids for a change.

This has been tried and proven. Don’t like it? Go away. I for one am sick and tired of people moving here and wanting to change Vegas to be like where they came from. Go back to where you came from. We would be much better off on a lot of issues — water shortage due to added grass and trees, overcrowded schools, unemployment and housing. Don’t complain about the pig farm, either. He was here first, and you knew that when you bought your cookie cutter house.

  1. Las Vegas is fine the way it is. But, that doesn't mean it can't be better.

    Carmine D

  2. I question why children should be allowed in a casino at all. Why casinos cater to families and allow anyone under the age of 21 to enter their premises is beyond me. I especially question the number of rug-rats running around in the buffets. Are they "gamblers-in-training?" Is that the reason? To get them, at an early age, used to going to casinos? LV is an adult Disneyland and should remain so.

  3. Interesting that we get these letters amidst a spate of letters on taxicab "long hauling". Will Las Vegans go to any lengths to make a buck? Las Vegas may be good or bad depending on your point of view but the fact is in the past it has been better and the trend should disturb us all.

  4. "Don't complain about the pig farm, either. He was here first, and you knew that when you bought your cookie cutter house."

JudyJudyJudy (as Cary Grant once said) -- I like your attitude. Not enough to want to have your baby, but enough to post here. For whatever that's worth

"Las Vegas is fine the way it is. But, that doesn't mean it can't be better."

CarmineD -- get rid of the dust and wind, and cool it down about ten degrees, and make everyone else more like us ... yeah, that could work

"I question why children should be allowed in a casino at all."

lvfacts -- why not? It's family fun time!

"Come on baby, eat the rich,
Put the bite on the [s-o-b],
Don't mess up, don't you give me no switch!
C'mon baby and eat the rich,
C'mon baby and eat the rich!" -- Motorhead (Lemmy is god)

  5. "They are BUMS."

TheT-Detector -- no they're not. They are our fellows, our brothers and sisters, our sons and daughters. They have as much right to be on the public right of way as you do. I used to live in Portland, now I live in Downtown. Just like me, just like them, you're free to leave.

"I'm never too busy that I can't stop to enjoy someone else's suffering." -- the late, great George Carlin in "White Guys Who Shave Their Heads"

  6. "Las Vegas is fine the way it is. But, that doesn't mean it can't be better."

CarmineD -- get rid of the excessive air traffic, too. Especially the COPters!

"Hell is other people." -- Jean-Paul Sartre from his 1944 play "No Exit"

  7. GHM -- how exactly does one "become a nascence to everyone"?

"Mankind cannot bear too much reality." -- T.S. Eliot

  8. "Las Vegas will never be the place it was since the casino industry came under control of the corporations."

Very true, Antigov. But then it never WAS that place...

It's so VERY easy to look at the past and not see its warts and scars.

"We'll never again see the like of the good ol' days. They were AWFUL!!!"

  9. Renorobert- You bring up a great point, in celebrating the glory days of old Las Vegas, we so quickly gloss over all the ugly.

Judy- When I first came to Vegas 13 years ago, children weren't allowed on the casino floor, at least after a certain hour. I clearly remember playing at both the Rio and the Mirage and seeing parents with children asked to leave the gaming area. Now, I will see strollers of all things parked next to slots. When did that become okay?

Las Vegas is all about adult fun. So what's wrong with girlie fliers and costumed characters? If they're not your thing, don't patronize them. No one is forcing you to. I've walked the strip more times than I can count, at all hours, and not once have I ever had an issue.
