In the past few weeks I’ve noted two letters in the Sun reiterating strong local support for creating a Gold Butte National Conservation Area. (Here and here.)In both letters the authors address concerns apparently expressed by some off-road enthusiasts regarding local road closures if conservation-area status becomes reality. One letter, for example, states: “...NCA status would ensure that none of the more than 500 miles of designated roads and ATV trails would be closed arbitrarily.”

Will someone please define “arbitrarily” for me?

  1. With the Milam land deal gone awry and an IG report due from the U.S. Department of Interior on the possibility of undue government influence in the sale, I.R.S. scandal of targeting GOP conservative groups for tax exempt status, Benghazi, Libya hearings, Justice Department confiscation of AP telephone records for over 100 media reporters, Gold Butte just went to the bottom of the list. Not over arbitrary road closure, lack of importance in the scheme of Washington, DC governance.
