Rebels quick hits:

UNLV football season opener at Minnesota will air on the Big Ten Network

Minnesota Beats UNLV in Overtime

UNLV’s Tim Cornett comes up short of the goal line in regulation play during UNLV’s season opener against Minnesota at Sam Boyd Stadium Thursday, Aug. 30, 2012.

The UNLV football season opener at Minnesota will air on the Big Ten Network, it was announced Monday afternoon.

The Rebels’ 2013 season opener on Thursday, Aug. 29 will kick off at 4 p.m. at TCF Bank Stadium on the conference’s flagship station. UNLV opened the 2012 season with a 30-27 triple-overtime loss to the Gophers.

This is the third game so far this season announced for national TV, though one of those could be in flux. On Thursday, Nov. 21, the Rebels’ game at Air Force will be on ESPNU.

The other one announced was UNLV’s home opener against Arizona on Sept. 7, but that game will possibly be moved from Las Vegas to University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz. That game was slated to appear on CBS Sports Network. A change of venue likely wouldn’t change that, but until the official announcement that’s one of many unknowns about the situation.

That announcement is expected early this week. In the coming weeks the Rebels should also find out about other telecasts as both CBS and ESPN will have more chances to put UNLV games on their networks or online platforms.
