Laugh your way through the start of the weekend with Aziz Ansari on Friday at Mirage. Then get your geek on with one of several events, including Star Wars Day, Free Comic Book Day and The Giant Science and Technology Expo. Here are our best entertainment bets for the weekend:
Thursday-Monday: Cinco de Mayo events
Cinco de Mayo falls on a weekend this year, which means it will be a full weekend of partying, starting Thursday and running through Monday. Look forward to deals on tacos and tequila plus a plethora of pool parties to celebrate.
Friday-Saturday: Aziz Ansari at Mirage
Actor and comedian Aziz Ansari will make his Aces of Comedy debut at the Mirage. Ansari has earned critical praise for his role in NBC’s “Parks & Recreation.” The actor also is keeping busy in the film world and will next appear in “This is the End,” alongside Seth Rogan, Jonah Hill and James Franco. The movie is scheduled to be released later this year. Tickets are $50-$70 and the show starts at 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
Saturday: Star Wars Day at House of Blues
House of Blues Las Vegas celebrates Star Wars Day — May the Fourth be with You. The galactic event begins at 8 p.m. in Crossroads. Come dressed as your favorite character to win prizes. (Note: masks are not allowed in the casino, so wait until you are inside the venue to don your masks). A DJ will provide music throughout the night and the original version of Star Wars Episode IV will be played on multiple televisions and a projector screen. The free event begins at 8 p.m.
Saturday: Monster Energy Supercross at Sam Boyd Stadium
Top Supercross riders Ryan Villopoto, James Stewart, Chad Reed, Ryan Dungey and others battle it out at Sam Boyd Stadium for the 2013 Monster Energy Supercross crown. Tickets are $50-$70 and the event begins at 7 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday: Lei Day Fest at the California
The 16th annual Las Vegas Lei Day Hawaiian and Polynesian Festival returns to the California this weekend, featuring music from Gary Haleamau, Kawili and others, plus tons of food and art vendors. The concert begins at 7 p.m. Saturday. The free event begins at 9 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Saturday: Viva Ska Vegas at Henderson Events Plaza
Viva Ska Vegas takes place at the Henderson Events Plaza. The festival features performances by Reel Big Fish, the Chinkees, Let's Go Bowling, Suburban Legends, the Skeletones, Roncovacoco, Codename Rocky, Potato Pirates and the Maxies. Tickets are $23-$43 and the event starts at noon.
Saturday: The Giant Science & Technology Expo at Cashman Center
Head to Cashman Center for The Giant Science & Technology Expo where you can watch the Banana Slug String Band rock out and Rubik’s Cube geniuses race. The free event begins at 10 a.m.
Saturday: Golf Fest at Angel Park
Titleist, Scotty Cameron, PING, Cleveland/Srixon, Callaway, TaylorMade, FootJoy, Odyssey and Adams will be at Golf Fest introducing their new products. Get the latest offers on clothing, golf resorts, golf tee times and other golf company products and services. The event offers a variety of displays and activities, including free golf lessons from the Angel Park Golf Academy, free driving range use to test out the latest products, a performance by trick shot artist Peter Longo, and a chance to win $50,000 in the Putting Challenge. Golf Fest opens at 9 a.m. Friday and Saturday. Admission is $10 for adults and kids under 10 are free. Every paid attendee will receive a certificate good for a free round of golf at either Angel Park Golf Club, the Legacy Golf Club, Las Vegas Golf Club, Painted Desert Golf Club or Stallion Mountain Golf Club (cart fee and tee time restrictions apply).
Saturday: Free Comic Book Day
On Free Comic Book Day, shops all over the country will give away comic books from dozens of publishers, all designed to showcase the varied world of comics to both new and existing readers. Local stores will feature signings, performances and more, in addition to all the free comics.
