A man who died in a head-on car crash Tuesday after driving miles in the wrong direction on U.S. 95 was identified today as Jose Edward Gonzalez, 30, of Riverside, Calif., the Clark County Coroner’s Office said.

Gonzalez drove a black Fiat north on southbound U.S. 95 for nearly seven miles before crashing about 2:25 a.m. into a Mazda compact car near Auto Show Drive, Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Jeremie Elliott said. The driver of the Mazda was taken to University Medical Center in critical condition.

Gonzalez was pronounced dead at the scene, Elliott said.
