Today and Friday will be truly remarkable days for Cirque du Soleil. To start its amazing “One Night for One Drop” extravaganza, 150 men from Cirque du Soleil will walk a symbolic 22 miles from Lake Las Vegas to the Bellagio Fountains.
Upon arrival after 4:30 p.m. today, there will be a water-pouring ceremony with a proclamation read by Mayor Carolyn Goodman to Cirque founder Guy Laliberte honoring the millions of women and girls who walk daily to get water for their families.
Then on Friday, Jerry Nadal, Cirque’s senior VP of Las Vegas resident shows, will present a $1 million gift to our Springs Preserve to support its continuing efforts to support water conservation and sustainable living in the Las Vegas Valley. After the check is presented, a water-conservation rally will feature Olympic gold medalists Missy Franklin, Mary Whipple and Erin Cafaro.
Tickets for Friday’s 6 1/2-hour gala events at Bellagio started for sponsors at $250,000, with individual tickets decreasing to $1,125, from $1,500. It’s all to mark World Water Day and Guy’s commitment with his nonprofit One Drop.
Rehearsals for the one-night only show have been in full swing seven days a week at Cirque stages and in dance studios in town even while casts are performing their own shows as many as 10 times a week. It all begins with a blue carpet for celebrities in front of Hyde Bellagio.
They include Missy, Jackie Evancho, Pamela Anderson, Sonya Tayeh of “So You Think You Can Dance,” Victoria’s Secret supermodel Oluchi Orlandi, “American’s Got Talent” performance painter David Garibaldi and many others. Prince Albert of Monaco, James Cameron and Britney Spears will be attending the performance.
All seven Cirque shows on the Strip will be closed for the night to permit each cast to participate in the show and the entertainment at the after-party. Cirque plans one of the most memorable and monumental parties ever by covering the Bellagio pool with Plexiglas and then tenting the area.
In addition to gourmet food, champagne and wines, there will be world-class entertainment with several A-list singers and gorgeous girls in an above-water and underwater oasis.
In addition to the TV taping and the human mermaid we reported Wednesday, I’ve also learned that Jackie’s aerial performance will be with the “Hymn of the World” song from Cirque’s “Zed” show formerly in Tokyo and unseen in America. Jackie says the song is inspired from an American Indian proverb: “The Earth was not given to you by your parents. It was loaned to you by your children.”
