Four schools were locked down for more than an hour Thursday after a bobcat was reported roaming through neighborhoods in the Summerlin area.
A motorist reported the bobcat near Rampart and Charleston boulevards about 10:55 a.m., Metro Police officials said.
Deerfelt, Piggott and Jacobson Elementary schools and Johnson Middle School were placed on lockdown at 11 a.m. while police and Clark County animal control officers searched for the cat, Clark County School District officials said.
Police called off the search about 12:40 p.m. without locating the animal. The lockdown was lifted about the same time.

notch...
you are correct.
I saw one @ the corner of Alta/Pavilion Center
looking like she was waiting for the light to change before crossing the street.
Probably wandered up from the wash.
MAJOR overreaction.
LOL its a bobcat!
A bobcat? Unless it is dropped on your head, a bobcat isn't anything. It is a squirrel with claws.
What's next? Going to call off school and close government offices because it "might snow"?
This nation is becoming extraordinarily "wussified". You should be very content to even SEE a bobcat.
Reminds me of my childhood... Growing up in Michigan, we would see bobcats run across the yard while I was outside playing. I would always try to get close but they were too fast for me to keep up.
I feel bad for the unnecessary fear this kitty has provoked.
Watch out Vegas.. this kitty might meow at you.
humans make tasty meals for bobcats
I have heard to variations of why this occurred.
A. Parent are very litigious these days. If lil' pumpkin' gets a scratch on her knee, the district can expect a lawsuit. The district is protecting itself.
B. The kids would chase poor lil' kitty and torment it. (AS IF they would ever catch a bobcat) I vacationed yearly in Northern Minnesota and Canada. I saw a bobcat 3 times in the wild when it was chasing a mouse/vole, and a lynx once. IN A ZOO.
Which excuse do you think in Las Vegas is more realistic?
**$$ies.
