Fire guts house in downtown Las Vegas

A house was gutted by fire Tuesday morning in downtown Las Vegas.

Las Vegas Fire and Rescue dispatchers received reports of the fire about 5:30 a.m. in the 500 block of Earl Street, near Fremont Street and Maryland Parkway. Firefighters arrived to find flames and smoke coming from the front door and windows, consuming the one-story, wood-framed house, fire department spokesman Tim Szymanski said.

Firefighters put out the fire within a few minutes, Szymanski said. The house had been vacant for the past several months, but three or four people were living in the home recently, he said.

The occupants said they had left for the night and returned to find the house on fire, Szymanski said. No one was injured.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
