UNLV Quick Hit:

Rebels open as 3-to-2 favorite to win MWC tourney

UNLV vs. Fresno State March 9, 2013

Fresno State center Robert Upshaw dunks on UNLV during their game Saturday, March 9, 2013 at the Thomas & Mack Center. Fresno State upset UNLV 61-52.

For the fourth straight year, UNLV finds itself seeded at No. 3 for the Mountain West Conference tournament. For the second straight year, oddsmakers favor the Rebels to win the tournament anyway.

UNLV is offered at a price of 3-to-2 to snag an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament at the LVH Superbook, which released odds on all the conference tournaments set to start this week on Monday afternoon.

Top-seeded New Mexico is close behind at 2-to-1, with No. 4 San Diego State at 7-to-2 and No. 2 Colorado State at 4-to-1. Boise State, seeded fifth, is 8-to-1.

No. 6 Air Force and No. 7 Fresno State are both 30-to-1 with the field — which represents Wyoming and UNR — at 50-to-1.

The prices on the top three teams are eerily similar to last year, when New Mexico prevailed after being posted at +180 before the tournament. The Rebels, who lost to the Lobos in the semifinals, were a +140 favorite.
