North Las Vegas standoff
Sun coverage
A man was arrested Sunday after a six-hour standoff with North Las Vegas Police that stemmed from an alleged physical confrontation with his wife, police said.
North Las Vegas Police responded about 3:30 a.m. to a domestic battery report at a home in the 2100 block of Pipeline Beach Court, near Tropical Parkway and Losee Road. Dustin Kent, 28, had been arguing with his 24-year-old wife, when he hit her and shoved her to the ground as he pulled their 7-month-old baby from her arms, police said.
Two family friends arrived and tried to help the wife, but Kent attacked them before they could help the woman and child leave the home, police said. When officers arrived, Kent fired several shots outside, causing police to evacuate nearby homes out of safety.
After six hours, North Las Vegas SWAT entered the home and arrested Kent. He was booked at Las Vegas City Jail on two counts of domestic battery, two counts of battery, and one count of aiming or discharging a firearm where a person can be endangered.
Kent’s wife and child suffered minor injuries but were treated by medical personnel at the scene.

Anyone can find themself in the midst of a domestic dispute with their partner. These situations are not only extremely dangerous, but unpredictable, as well.
The part that really disturbed me about this entire incident was the report that the child had sustained injuries. Out of all the mistakes Dustin Kent made, the injuries to the child were by far, the worst of them all. If Mr. Kent has a conscience, he will hurt internally for the rest of his life. Should he go to prison, the other inmates will surely not look favorably upon him either. And, we all know what that means!
